Garden Smarts Facilitator Training and Curriculum Bundle

Description: Garden Smarts is a flexible and modular nutrition-focused garden curriculum designed for leading hands-on workshops with K-8 youth with or without outdoor space.

Participants of this training program will:

• Implement Garden Smarts workshops in school settings
• Understand holistic gardening concepts
• Appropriately modify activities
• Use trauma-informed facilitation strategies
• Lead recipe demonstrations and group cooking activities that do not require a full kitchen

Audience: Educators, school staff, volunteers, and partners (in-school and out-of-school time) [If an organization has multiple participants, each participant must register separately so that their registered email address can then be added to our online training system.]

Training Delivery and Dates:  This training includes self-paced content (videos, reflection activities, and readings) and live, instructor-led virtual sessions. Once you register, you will receive several emails in early September inviting you to our online platform (TalentLMS) and will need to complete about 1.5 hours of self-paced work prior to the first live session. Participants will have access to digital curriculum files and will be mailed a Garden Smarts curriculum bundle (includes one workbook and one instructor guide). Please note if you register after September 1, your curriculum materials may arrive after the first live session (but digital files are included).

Key dates are as follows:

• Self-Paced Course Opens:  early September
• Registration Closes: September 16
• Live Zoom Sessions: September 15 and 22; Times: 10:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. PT

Total Training Time:  Approximately five and a half hours total (three hours of live sessions and about two and a half hours of self-paced work)

Next Steps:  Upon completion of this program, participants are certified to deliver the Garden Smarts curriculum.
